Session Overview:

BRCA mutations aren’t just a women’s issue, but due to the level of risk for female carriers, issues affecting men often get lost in the mix. In this fireside chat, genetic counsellor and men’s hereditary cancer advocate Justin Lorentz will discuss the implications of BRCA mutations for men. The conversation will cover cancer risks, recommended screening and unique concerns for male carriers. We will also explore how we can better support male carriers in our community and what men would like to see as we move forward.

Key Topics:

  • Male BRCA Risks: Cancers linked to BRCA in men.

  • Screening & Prevention: Evidence-based guidelines.

  • Family Implications: Passing on mutations and genetic testing for relatives.

  • Stigma & Awareness: Addressing the gender gap in BRCA education.

  • Q&A: A chance to ask questions specific to men’s experiences.

  • What is the Future for BRCA and Men in BC?
